A line rarely featured in the media is the Alderney Railway, which possibly employs the oldest regularly working diesel in passenger service in the British Isles. This is No. D100 Elizabeth, built by Vulcan Foundry in 1949 (Drewry 2271) and used originally as its works shunter. It is the Alderney line's only serviceable motive power and hauls a pair of ex-London Transport 1959 stock cars, Nos. 1044 and 1045. The unusual formation is seen at Les Rochers on July 19, with a Mannez quarry to Braye Road empty stock working for the benefit of a party of photographers, who also inspected various stored Wickham trolleys and an out-of-use 71/4in gauge railway, also in the quarry. A new shed is being built there to house the two ex-LT cars.
