The end of Virgin's ten-year reign over the Crosscountry franchise ended on November 14 when control was handed to Crosscountry Trains, a subsidiary of Arriva plc. Unlike the former Arriva Trains Northern and the current Arriva Trains Wales franchise, the word Arriva does not figure prominently on the trains or timetables. The franchise covers 1,500 route miles and until the December timetable change will be basically the one operated by Virgin, but with the addition of Birmingham-Stansted and Nottingham-Cardiff services.
