Network Rail invests £21m on antiquated Skegness line

Engineers working on the Boston-Skegness re-laying project have been astonished to find a rail chair still in use, dated 1874 (the year after the final section of the route was opened). Even the majority of more recent track on the line is of Great Northern or LNER vintage, underlining the fact that the permanent way in that remote corner of fenland Lincolnshire was well overdue for renewal.
