Clearing nine miles of disused track of vegetation, renewing worn-out rails and replacing thousands of rotten sleepers is a costly business - but one preserved railway has found an ideal source of finance. Wyvernrail has, since 2003, been progressively reopening the former Midland Railway Ecclesbourne Valley line between Duffield and Wirksworth as a community railway and currently operates a 31/2-mile weekend passenger service to Idridgehay.
