National Express's arch rival, Stagecoach, has agreed in principle to take on the East Anglia and c2c franchises, should the Government succeed in wresting them from NX's control.rnIt has agreed that it would pay DfT Rail a 'change of control' fee of about £100m. However, there is uncertainty as to whether the DfT has legal power under the Railways Act to enforce a 'cross-default' confiscation if a firm has defaulted on only one franchise. (Pointedly, some c2c units have began appearing with NX branding).
