PM's weak reply solves nothing

The harassment of photographers at stations seems unlikely to ease off following a feeble response from the Prime Minister's office to a Downing Street petition. As reported in our news pages, enthusiast Richard Boyd had urged the PM to remove the presumption of guilt placed on enthusiasts and replace it with an instruction to rail staff not to challenge people whose activities "constitute no threat to security nor the safe functioning of railway premises". He also asked for an end to the system whereby enthusiasts have to 'sign in' before spending leisure time on a station. Almost 3,500 people, me included, had risked sticking their head above the political parapet to sign the petition.
