WHR reopens to Hafod-y-Llyn

The latest section of the Welsh Highland Railway opened on May 21, taking trains through the scenic Aberglaslyn Pass for the first time since the 1930s, writes Cliff Thomas.rnAs reported last month, trains began running to Beddgelert on April 7. Trains now continue from Beddgelert through the Aberglaslyn Pass to Hafod-y-Llyn, (the originally-proposed name of Hen Hafod for this loop having been dropped).rnNGG 16 Garratts Nos. 87 and 143 hauled the formal 'Aberglaslyn Pass Opening Train' for invited guests from Caernarfon to Beddgelert. There, guests watched the Ffestiniog Railway's 0-4-OSTT Prince enter the station from Goat tunnel cutting, running up to a celebratory banner. It was supposed to have broken through the banner, but in their excitement, some guests had spilled onto the tracks, causing the loco driver to slow down and stop short.
