Stadium Station Back On Track

Construction of a new station to serve Coventry City Football Club's Ricoh Stadium and adjacent retail park is back on the agenda.rnNew proposals for the station and an expansion of the existing train service have appeared in a regional funding advice list.rnThe plan seeks ￡12million of government funding for the first stage of the project, which would include the Ricoh stadium station and a new platform at Coventry. The inclusion in the list of priorities could possibly see work start in 18 months.rnThe new proposal is part of a plan known as NUCKLE1, which would enhance the existing train services between Nuneaton and Coventry and extend them across Warwickshire to Kenilworth (which currently has no station) and Leamington Spa. Trains would be formed of three-car DMUs instead of the current single-car Class 153.
