Agility Trains, the consortium chosen by the Government as preferred bidder for the £7.5bn 'Super Express' programme (April issue) has started the procurement process by holding a series of meetings with potential UK and European suppliers.rnThe consortium's principal partners - Hitachi and John Laing Ltd - are asking companies to register for a selection process via its website.rnHitachi will manufacture the trains and it is understood that the first 70 vehicles of the potential 1,400-vehicle order will be built in Japan.rnContrary to earlier reports, the SETs will be able to match their Class 395 sisters for speed, being capable of 140mph with minor modifications to suspension and bogies, says Hitachi.
