On May 27, my wife and I decided to travel by bus to Thurso via John o' Groats to catch the 13.05 train to Inverness. The train was nearly full, as a road coach had deposited its load of pensioners. They were looking forward to a sightseeing train trip back to their hotel in Golspie. Their coach had gone ahead to await them there. Scotrail DMU No. 158722 departed right time but shortly after arrival at Georgemas Junction, it became apparent that all was not well as crew members were wandering the platforrr glued to their mobile phones. After some 20 minutes, an announcement was made by the conductor that the train would be reversing to Wick (whence we had departed by bus over four hours earlier!) and a further announcement would be made there to inform us of what was happening.
