ALTHOUGH reported last month as withdrawn from South Devon Railway service at the end of August, the Worcester Locomotive Society's Pannier No. 5786 received some foundation ring attention enabling it to work SDR trains in September. WLS held its own farewell trip behind the 0-6-0 PT on September 24, the train comprising three'Toad' brakevans. That evening the Pannier worked a full dining train for Worcester Locomotive Society members to Totnes and back. With the boiler ticket expiring on September 30, 'The end is nigh'was chalked on the smokebox door, although as reported last month, its overhaul is unlikely to be lengthy and No. 5786 could well return to traffic next year.
