Kirklees fusible plug incident under investigation

THE Rail Accident Investigation Branch is examining a July 3 incident when the Kirklees Light Railway's 0-4-4-OT Hawk suffered a melted fusible plug. Hawk stopped short of the 15in gauge line's Shelley terminus with low boiler water level. The injectors failed to maintain the level, which dropped below the bottom of the gauge glass followed by the fusible plug in the firebox melting.
