Crossrail has announced that five manufacturers have made the shortlist to build the new rolling stock and also construct depot facilities. The shortlist is: Alstom, CAF, Bombardier Transportation, Hitachi Rail Europe and Siemens, and the choice unsurprising, as the decision was made to base the new trains on proven and existing technology. The invitation to tender will be issued at the end of this year with the contract awardinlate-2013.
