GW ERTMS sourcing begins

The project to procure a European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) for wider national use has begun by Network Rail. With the Great Western route being the first main line in the country to be earmarked for ERTMS, NR has invited expressions of interest to design, install and commission a system. These were due by December 17. Moving the ERTMS project on to a wider footing follows the commissioning of ETCS level 2 of the pilot ERTMS project on a 22-mile section of the Cambrian line at the end of October after months of technical difficulties.
