￡190,000 grant for Scarborough project

English Heritage has offered a grant of ￡190,000 to help transform the former excursion platform building at Scarborough into an art studio. The Grade II listed building, which has been redundant for many years, was the gateway for thousands of working class day trippers who visited the seaside resort in steam days. The grant will enable Scarborough Studios Ltd to restore the crumbling stonework and rotting roof. It will cost an estimated ￡550,000 to complete the work and Scarborough Studios will work closely with Network Rail and the Railway Heritage Trust. Work should start in the spring following a public consultation early in 2011, and be completed within six months.
