The Derwent Valley Light Railway, with its future now assured (RM Jan p62), is raising its profile as a heritage railway. 'Santa Specials'ran in December and trains will run every Sunday and bank holiday from Easter until the end of September. The possibility of offering diesel driver experience courses is being considered.This would take place with the Class 03 No. 03079 and include shunting duties, and in addition to being a loco driver it would offer a turn at signalling and being a shunter. The DVLR would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in such an opportunity. The railway has a number of operational diesel shunters of industrial origin, with its main loco currently being the 03, while the steam loco awaits restoration.
