Garratt, Fairlie or Mallet king of WHR hills?

The Statfold Barn Railway's Jung 0-4-4-0T Mallet Jatibarang No. 9(4878/1930) is confirmed as visiting the Ffestiniog Railway/Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon) during 2011, a move anticipated by The RM (see December issue). The visit will follow the loco's debut after restoration at the Statfold's March 19 open day. The appearance of the Mallet-design loco alongside WHR(C) Garratt NG/G16s and FR Double-Fairlies will provide a fascinating comparison between the three different forms of articulated locomotive design, especially on the curves and gradients of the WHR, which officially opens over its full 25 miles on April 20.
