The Stagecoach Group, which holds a 49 per cent stake in the Virgin Rail Group, has indicated that it may bid for the East Coast Main Line franchise when it is offered.The term is likely to be for 15 years. Bidding for the lucrative but troubled franchise could pit Perth-based Stagecoach and its Aberdeen rival First Group against each other, although the latter has bid twice unsuccessfully for the route. Stagecoach says it wants to see more vertical inegration and less micro-management in new franchises.
