There's not a lot the preservation movement hasn't achieved in its six wonderful decades and that's especially true where locomotive liveries are concerned. The Al Locomotive Trust's decision to run Tornado in all four livery permutations carried by the class in its lifetime reminded me that in the early British Railways era, some express passenger locomotives were painted purple. Among them were four A4s (Nos. 60024/27/28/29), seven A3s and a handful of Class 8Ps from other Regions.
