The light test run for Britannia took place between Crewe, Warrington and Carnforth on November 9 with a support coach and a West Coast Class 47 in case of failure. This run was due to be followed the next day with the loaded test run on the Carnforth Hellifield-Preston circuit but this was cancelled. Unfortunately, the BR Standard suffered from a fireman's side piston steam leak. The offending parts were removed and taken to Crewe for remedial action while the engine remained at Carnforth. To replicate its original test runs 60 years ago, Britannia ran with the boiler and tender in unlined black BR mixed traffic livery, and carried no name or cabside numbers.
