Butterley celebrates Type 4 anniversary

Restored to as near-original condition as is now possible. Class 47 No. D1501 departs Butterley station for Swanwick Junction on August 19 at 15.35. The loco was visiting the MR-B from the East Lancashire Railway for the Class 47 golden jubilee weekend. It nearly missed the event due to technical problems, but fortunately was rectified in time. The 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Brush Type 4 - later TOPS Class 47 -was a feature of the Midland Railway-Butterley's Midland Railex event on August 18-19.
