Group bids to fulfil dream of running an Edwardian passenger train

The Gcr Rolling Stock Trust has launched a ￡40,000 appeal towards finishing the roof and concrete floor of what will be named'The Barnum Building' at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. The new structure, housed between two other buildings, will provide covered accommodation for four GCR carriages. The foundations are already in place with steelwork (already bought) being prepared for erection. The GCR Rolling Stock Trust has nine vehicles at the Great Central Railway's (Nottingham) Ruddington base, of which three are in covered accommodation. Work is progressing on 1880-vintage GCR/MSLR six-wheel carriage No. 946 and vehicles from the 1910 Barnum rake -including saloon No. 228 - with the objective of producing a corridor connected dining set. Completing the building, which means historic vehicles can be placed under cover, is viewed as important to securing grants towards their restoration.
