Flying Scotsman goes to Bury for assessment as NRM decides at last to restore it

After months of hesitation, The National Railway Museum has finally decided to have Gresley A3 No. 4472 Flying Scotsman restored to main line condition and has sent it to Riley & Son's Bury works for assessment of repairs. The famous Pacific left York by low-loader on October 29 and could be back on The main line by The summer of 2015 if The repairs prove affordable. NRM chief Paul Kirkman said The completion of The restoration was at last going ahead but that it would be "subject to reviewing The condition of The main side frames". Three suppliers showed an interest in The project but Riley was The only one that tendered. The news will be a big relief to many enthusiasts who felt The loco could become a static exhibit.
