Katie visits Fairbourne as new-look diesel launched

Star attraction at the Fairbourne Railway's May 26-27 Little to Large gala was the visit of 1954-built 2-4-2 Katie from the Windmill Railway. The one-time Fairbourne 15in-gauge loco was unable to return to its old main line (regauged to 121/4in in 1986), but steamed on a length of dual-gauge track, specially laid at Fairbourne station. The event also featured the unveiling of Fairbourne's A1 -1A diesel (Lilian Walter. when last in service), following reconstruction into a double-cab loco. The livery, a closely guarded secret as the gala approached, was revealed as green with brown side stripes and 'whiskers'edged in yellow.
