LT carriage restoration completed at Ffestiniog

Restoration of London Transport Museum's 1892-built Metropolitan Railway 'Jubilee'first class carriage No. 353 has been completed at the Ffestiniog Railway's Boston Lodge works. After fitting of the wheelsets to the shortened underframe, the frames (supported on 2ft gauge accommodation bogies) were towed across the Cob past Harbour station on November 7 for a gauging trial to ensure the completed vehicle could be taken over Britannia Bridge. The restored body was then fitted to the frames in mid-November - outside the works since the completed carriage would not have fitted through Boston Lodge's doors, normally used only by narrow gauge vehicles.
