Stratford Y14 back in steam as overhaul fund picks up

The boiler of sole-surviving Great Eastern Railway Y14/J15 No. 7564 has been steamed at Ian Riley's workshops, Bury. The latest development comes at a time when its £100,000 overhaul appeal is just £13,000 short of its target. The M&GN Joint Railway Society's Worsdell 0-6-0 was initially due to be running in time for its members'day at the North Norfolk Railway on October 5, but a greater scope of work than originally anticipated has knocked the work schedule back. Having reached £70,000 in June, the £100,000 714:2014' overhaul fund tailed off until a concerted fundraising effort at the members'day boosted the total to £87,000. The society has hailed the September 9 out-of-frames steam test as a major milestone in the project.
