Deep in the mountains of Myanmar (formerly Burma) lies a hidden gem; a 2ft railway rarely visited by enthusiasts because of the permits required. Namtu, centre of the Burma Mines Railway, is so isolated that the word 'remote'only half-describes the situation. There is no tourist infrastructure. Accommodation is in a mine guesthouse - charming, but far from comfortable.
