The number of train journeys made in Britain has more than doubled in the 20 years of Privatisation. Figures from the Office of Rail Regulation reveal that in 2012/13, the number of journeys rose to 1,27billion - a 3.3% rise on the previous year and an astonishing 115% increase on the 589million journeys made in 1995 - the last full year of British Rail.
