Visitors to the railway industry's Railtex exhibition in Birmingham on May 12-14 were treated to the vision of a new build of high-speed train from Hitachi, the potential of which is clearly aimed at HS2. The VHST (very high speed train) concept builds on Hitachi's expertise in building Shinkansen bullet trains for Japan, and the 140mph Class 395 'Javelin' EMUs used on HS1. Hitachi says it wants to produce an iconic design that will be admired for generations to come.
