Diana approaches completion as VoR opens for contract work

With the magnificent new workshop facility available at Aberystwyth, the Vale of Rheidol Railway is entering the contract railway engineering business. And the first locomotive to enter the works for contracted restoration to steam is Kerr Stuart 'Sirdar'class 0-4-0T 1158/1917 Diana. The loco, which ran at the Kerry Tramway and the Oakeley and Pen-yr-Orsedd slate quarries in its working days, last steamed in 1950. It is one of only two 'Sirdar'class locos known to exist, the other being a national monument in Namibia housed in a brick-and-glass display building.
