The eight converted railway carriages that have provided holiday accommodation at Dawlish Warren will cease to operate at the end of 2016. The owner, Brunei Camping Coach Park, has decided to close. It was back in 1935 that the first camping coach was introduced at Dawlish Warren, which had been expanded to nine by 1959 as British Railways made use of their popularity. At that time, a week's rental of the carriage cost £12, but this season an eight-berth carriage costs £660 per week. The current carriages were replaced in 1982 with converted Mk1 restaurant cars and former LMS inspection saloon No. 45046, with the connection to the goods yard lifted soon after.
