£27k goes'missing'from Urie loco restoration fund

Supporters of the Urie Locomotive Society (ULS) have been left stunned by the disappearance of around £27,000 from its restoration fund for'S15'class Nos. 499 and 506. Members were informed of the loss at the society's AGM, held at its Ropley base on the Mid Hants Railway on November 28. Dorset Police told The RM that they are "investigating an allegation of theft that was reported on Monday, November 16, 2015". A spokesman added that "no arrests have been made". One member who was present at the meeting told The RM: "it was a bolt from the blue - it shocked everybody." At the same meeting it was announced that the group's founding chairman Roger Hardingham had resigned by letter.
