Deltic's historic Preston birthplace set to close

AROUND 180 jobs will be lost in Preston when Alstom closes its historic works in the Lancashire city. The Strand Road site, formerly owned by electric traction pioneer Dick, Kerr & Co, and later English Electric (EE), was the birthplace of some of Britain's earliest electric trains and trams and the legendary EE prototype Deltic, completed in Preston in 1955.
