THE first use of 'Aventra' Class 345 sets on the Elizabeth Line serving Heathrow airport began at the end of July following approval by the Office of Rail and Road. The service should have started in May 2018, but various delays relating to signalling and software for the ETCS system have been at the forefront of delays. These TfL sets will eventually replace the Class 360/2 Heathrow Connect units on the non-express service from London Paddington. TfL's plan is for six Elizabeth Line trains per hour to serve London Heathrow, four serving Terminals 2,3 and 4 and two to Terminals 2,3 and 5.Following withdrawal for safety issues, nine-car formations of the Class 345 were allowed back into service from July 30, when No. 345004 was the first in service to visit Heathrow.
