Undercover is a book about a special unit of the Metropolitan Police formed in 1968, when the political climate was very different. A time when, arguably, the government and police service were alarmed about left-wing political influences taking hold. The police tactics used at that time to try to find out what was going on within these anarchist groups were probably appropriate at that time. However, since that time changes in education, lifestyle and thinking have developed a more worldly-wise population in England and Wales, and Britain as a whole, but the undercover tactics developed and used by the Metropolitan Police Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) from the late 1960s did not seem to evolve and are not, from personal knowledge, acceptable or politically correct today.
