Development of Quality Management Systems in Russian Nuclear Power Plants

A consortium of English, Belgian and Spanish companies, assisted by the Russian Institute VNIIAES, has been developing Quality Management Systems for use in Russian Nuclear Power Plants. What started as a Tacis funded Project to develop Quality Assurance documents has broadened and touched on many of the ″soft″ areas of management with the recognition that Quality, Quality Assurance, Performance Monitoring, Safety and Safety Culture are interrelated and inseparable. A set of ″Generic″ or ″Model″ Procedures is being developed by the Project. These Model Procedures will then be customised by the individual Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) to allow for specific organisational or technical differences. The Project team are also providing training material and support for the NPPs during the implementation phase.
