Designing a container vessel for an owner that charters vessels rather than operating them directly can be a more complex affair, not least because the ship may have to operate in a number of different trades and conditions. Optimisation for such vessels is, therefore, significantly tougher and so the trend towards designing vessels for actual operational conditions, rather than to a single design point such as speed and design draught, can help to make certain a new vessel design remains competitive throughout its working life. Seaspans latest series of 10,000TEU ships are currently under construction at Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding.
