Atlantic Offshore Rescue, which operates a dozen emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs) from its base in Aberdeen, Scotland, has confirmed a £6 million (US$9.9 million) charter arrangement with Nexen Petroleum. Under the terms of the deal, Nexen will take on Atlantic Offshore Rescues Ocean Tay, a 63m loa Class A ERRV which can accommodate up to 20 members of crew and more than 300 survivors, for an initial period of two years. The vessel was recently converted and modernised at Wear Dock & Engineering in Sunderland, north east England, to meet Nexen's specific needs and as part of Atlantic Offshore Rescues ongoing fleet modernisation programme, into which the latter group has pumped a reported £300 million so far. Ocean Tay will be deployed as a standby vessel in the North Sea, at Nexen's Golden Eagle Development Area project, which is situated approximately 110km north of Aberdeen.
