Siemens closes CD-adapco deal

Germany's electrical goods manufacturing giant Siemens acquired the global engineering simulation company CD-adapco on 1 April for US$970 million. The valuation of the company by Siemens reflects the growing influence of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) on manufacturing design in many fields such as car and aeroplane design and also in the maritime industry. With a workforce of around 1,000, the sale to Siemens values the company at a remarkable US$1 million per worker, but CD-adapco's Starr CCM+ CFD software, along with the company's other products, is dearly expected to build on the near US$200 million profit made in the last financial year.
