Polar Code's ice design imperative

Numerous research reports and presentations show that the freight volume on the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and the overall intensity of navigation on the NSR over the last two-three years has grown. For shipowners using the NSR for a voyage between European and Asian ports, the reduction of distance has been estimated to be almost 4,000miles compared with traditional routes.
