Writing in the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's (ASPI's) publication The Strategist, Hans Ohff, who was managing director of the Australian Submarine Corporation ((ASC), the company that built the Royal Australian Navy's Collins class submarines, which the Future Submarine programme will replace) from 1993 to 2002, criticised the decision to adopt the DCNS Barracuda Shortfin Block 1A concept to meet the Australian requirement. Others have responded to his decision, supporting the decision to opt for the Barracuda.
