First AWD completes trials

The first of the Royal Australian Navy's new Air Warfare Destroyers (AWDs) has completed sea acceptance trials off the coast of South Australia - the final step before being handed over. The vessel, Hobart, spent five weeks demonstrating its onboard weapons capabilities, including 21 days at sea, where it conducted 20 platform system tests and 45 combat system tests. Work on Hobart commenced in January 2010 with its hull consolidation in March 2014, launch in May 2015 and builders sea trials in September 2016.
