VIKING ACQUIRES HYDROPEN CONTAINER FIRE-FIGHTING SYSTEM

Viking Life-Saving Equipment has acquired HydroPen, the Danish company which developed the unique HydroPen system for tackling container fires.Founded in 2016 by Martin Winkel and Jesper Rosenfeldt Hansen, HydroPen's technology makes it possible to directly extinguish container fires at any height onboard cargo vessels. Designed to be operated by just a single crew member, the system consists of telescopic poles to which the HydroPen itself, a water-based drilling machine, is attached via wire and then hoisted up to the burning container and locked into place.Using only pressure from the fire mains system, the HydroPen drills through the container door in around 10 seconds and begins shooting water inside (the system is also suitable for foam or CO_2). Meanwhile, the rotation from its turbine creates a water shield that protects the crew and prevents the fire from spreading. After the fire has been extinguished the HydroPen can be dismantled as easily as it was set up.
