New pair of Daewoo-built ferries for Moby Lines

A relatively unknown Italian operator, Moby Lines, chose Daewoo's Okpo yard to build a pair of new-generation ro-ro ferries for its Mediterranean operations. Despite the Far East's struggle to win significant volumes of European ferry work, this order has been a valuable boost to Daewoo, a company which already has two smaller ferries under its belt - the 1998-built Treasure Island for domestic owner Dong-Yang Express (Significant Ships of 1998), and the Blue Star Ithaki, completed last year for the Greek operator Blue Star Femes' internal services (Blue Star is now owned by Strintzis Lines), and which was presented in Significant Ships of 2000. However, the new completion of Moby Wonder, soon to be followed by sister Moby Freedom, will have given Daewoo an extra taste of luxury European-standard ferry outfitting. The Naval Architect was able to inspect Moby Wonder at Okpo during the final stages of outfitting.
