Assessing the potential of roll-on/roll-off trades in China

David Byrne, from Transmarine Consultants Ltd, considers the economic and commercial environment, as it now exists in China, as a basis for assessing the growth potential of ro-ro services in the coastal, riverine, and near-international trades, particularly in the face of competing rail and, road services. Some projections are presented which support the view that, as in so many other areas, China presents a stunning picture of growth potential, but not without complexities and pitfalls for the unwary.
