Severnoye Design Bureau on the World's Warship Market

According to naval analysts, the world market for warships over the next 15 years is estimated at more than US$270 billion, from now till 2015, the global demand is forecasted at 1,400 warships and support vessels. Fulfilling this demand, however, is impeded by the fact that out of 180 nations that have navies today, only few have the assets enabling them to independently design and build ships. Among these nations is Russia, a country with a deep technology base and vast experience in warship production. One leading Russian firm is the Severnoye Design Bureau (SPKB) in St. Petersburg, which designs various types of surface warships as well as a number of commercial vessels.
