Many existing techniques combine to create a new concept for offshore oil-production and, if required, oil-storage in an economic self-installing package. A number of recent examples show that this type platform can be designed, fabricated and installed in a very short time, even for North Sea conditions. In February 1996, a Statoil-led group decided to develop the SIRI-field in the Danish sector of the North Sea as a stand-alone, re-usable, production-storage platform in a fast-track program. This led to the selection of GustoMSC's MOPUstor concept. This platform is an example of technology transfer from the world outside the fixed platforms and FPSOs. The cost benefits are derived from: 1. a low-weight tank installed by suction; 2. a pre-drilling caisson that is a functional part of the tank; 3. a post-installed jack-up.
