Naval UAVs complete sea trials

ScanEagle, a long-endurance fully autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Boeing and The Insitu Group in the US successfully completed sea trials aboard the USS Cleveland as part of the US Navy-sponsored 2005 Joint Task Force Exercise at the end of last year. The two week exercise off the coast of San Diego coast saw the UAV tested in a range of scenarios, and verified the ability to launch and recovery the ScanEagle from a warship. The UAV completed four launches and 'captures,' as well at 68 approaches, and provided realtime video to ships in the fleet during the exercise.
