A service between the UK port of Liverpool and Dublin, Eire was started in February by Merchant Ferries, a subsidiary of Cenargo International, London. According to Merchant Ferries' chairman Michael Hendry, the two £40 million ($60 million) ships have virtually doubled the size of the company's Irish Sea operations. "In 1998, Merchant Ferries shipped approximately 90,000 trailer units and 8,000 trade cars on the Heysham - Dublin route," says Mr Hendry.
