Integrated operations centre enhances ABB monitoring

From a new facility in offices outside Oslo, power and automation specialist ABB is running an enhanced remote diagnostics service that it believes goes a step beyond other similar services. Via a satellite link to sensors onboard vessels, the integrated operations centre allows ABB engineers a high degree of insight into the performance of propulsion and power solutions. ABB claims that it can identify issues with equipment faster than crew, directing onboard engineers or electrical personnel to faults and providing solutions often without needing to send a shore-based specialist to the ship.
